My wife and I went to the New Scenic on a rainy Friday afternoon late in June.

Comments: This was sort of an anniversary lunch after a business meeting in Duluth. Since we were celebrating, we ate a little more than we normally would at lunch. I had duck. My wife had lamb. The food was excellent. It’s pretty rustic, but still comfortable. It wasn’t cheap, but I thought it was a good value for what we had.
I love the North Shore! I was just up there the other week and almost stopped at The New Scenic, but passed. Instead we did the Bluefin Grille once we reached Tofte. Also amazing food!
Our goal for our second night on South Beach was to just stroll up and down Ocean Drive and see what was available. We saw a lot of possibilities but finally settled on Medi. As I described in my opening post about our South Beach vacation, on Sunday, Ocean Drive was closed off and the restaurants expanded into the middle of the street. Medi is the sidewalk café in front of the Strand Ocean Drive . I also described how the cafés and restaurants have their hosts out on the sidewalk trying to induce customers to come in. We picked Medi because the menu looked good, the music playing in the background was a nice mix of rock (not techno), and they offered us a two-for-one drink special. Well, my martini was $14 and Linda’s Miami Vice cocktail was $18. We each got two of them, but you can make your own judgment about whether it was really a half-price deal. But if the drinks were over-priced, they still were good, and the food was very good. I had a Cuban st...
We ate a lot of great food on our 26-day trip to Europe in April and May. But I do have a favorite. It was on the last day of our stay on the Amalfi Coast. The restaurant was Kasai. (They don't have a web site, just a Facebook page. Click here to view it.) It was located just a half block away from the hotel we were staying at in Praiano. Every night, as we trudged down the hill to the main square of Praiano to find a restaurant, we walked by Kasai. Every night, it was overflowing with customers with music pouring out the door. It looked appealing. So on our third night, as we returned to our hotel, we made a reservation for the following night. The headline says it. It was my favorite meal of our whole trip. When we arrived, our table wasn't ready yet. So we were served a glass of prosecco and some fried zucchini and eggplant, which we consumed outside overlooking the sea. (That was our only outdoor 'meal' because of the chilly weather.) When our table was...
My extended birthday celebrations came to a glorious end in mid-December, nearly a month after my actual birth date. (That was Thanksgiving Day.) My daughter treated me to dinner at Terzo in south Minneapolis. Unlike the other two restaurant birthday dinners, I had been to Terzo in the past; multiple times, actually. I've even posted in this blog about the restaurant twice - once in 2014 as we prepared for a trip to Italy and again in 2016 just before another Italian trip. Terzo continues to be a favorite of mine. So it was an easy choice for a birthday dinner, especially since my daughter hadn't eaten there previously. We started with a glass of prosecco and an order of arancini . Next we had salads. My daughter had 'misticanza' which was a beautiful mixed salad with baby lettuce, pea tendrils, fresh herbs, radish, celery, egg yolk and a light dressing. I had a seasonal salad 'autumnale'. Smoked trout on pasta Terzo offers half orders of its pasta entre...
